Planned ‘Medical City’ in Orlando One Step Closer to Fruition

Local officials in Orlando, Florida, are reviewing a newly unveiled master plan for a proposed “medical city” with a senior housing component.

The project would include space for residential use, offices for physicians and clinicians and emergency and surgical facilities. All told, the plans have room for 955 apartments, and will offer assisted living, memory care, stroke and hospice services.

The project’s master plan team includes Dan Kirby, principal of JACOBS Buildings; Infrastructure and Advanced Facilities; GAI Consultants, Traffic Planning and Design, Stack Rock Group, Wayne Young of Young Architects, and Silverman Trykowski Associates.

Blake Announces Plans for Community in South Carolina

Cardinal Ventures and Blake Management Group are collaborating on the Blake at Hollingsworth Park, a senior living community in the area of Greenville, South Carolina.

The assisted living and memory care community will come with studio, one- and two-bedroom suites for residents and span approximately 88,000 square feet.

Construction on the project is expected to wrap up in the spring of 2020.

Groundbreakings for Resort Lifestyle in Florida, Virginia

Resort Lifestyle Communities (RLC) is celebrating the groundbreaking of three senior living communities.

The provider broke ground on April 24 on Shell Harbor, a senior living community in Rockledge, Florida. Shell Harbor will have 130 and amenities such as dining venues with chef-prepared meals, an in-house bank, pharmacy, gift shop and salon.

RLC is also planning to mark the start of construction for Seaside Springs, a retirement community in Osprey, Florida; and Tuckahoe Pines, a community in Richmond, Virginia. Like Shell Harbor, both communities also will have an in-house bank, pharmacy, gift shop and salon.

Watercrest Tops Out in Florida

The Watercrest Senior Living Group recently celebrated the topping out of its forthcoming community in Winter Park, Florida.

Watercrest Winter Park is a 107-unit senior living development made possible by a partnership between Watercrest Senior Living Group and Titan Development Real Estate Fund I. It’s currently under construction by Walker and Company.

Work Starts for Affordable Senior Housing Community in Los Angeles

Developer Meta Housing has broken ground on a new affordable senior housing community in Los Angeles as part of a joint venture development with Western Community Housing.

The $51.4 million, 72-unit project will house seniors who are at least 62 years old and who earn between 25% and 60% of area median income.

Western Community Housing will coordinate resident services, while The People Concern is handling supportive services. Westport Construction, Inc. is the project’s general contractor, and Y&M Architects is architect. AMJ Construction Management is handling construction management, and The John Stewart Company will manage the property once it opens.

Construction Starts for Charter Community in Alabama

Charter Senior Living is set to manage Wellpoint Community at Hampton Cove, a senior housing property now under construction in Huntsville, Alabama.

The 190-unit community will have an integrative wellness center, a boutique hotel and access to a golf course. Residences will include apartments, townhomes and villas.

Wellpoint is a partnership among LifeCenters Communities, Charter Senior Living and the Hutchinson Group. If all goes according to plan, work will wrap up in 2020.

Opus Opens Minnesota Development

The Opus Group has welcomed residents to a new 147-unit senior living development in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

Ebenezer Management will operate the community, which is called Orchards of Minnetonka. Floorplans include studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. Independent and assisted living apartment come with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, while memory care residents will get a dedicated garden and activity nooks.

Amenities include a salon, multi-purpose chapel space, club room, billiards, community room, two dining areas, a walking path, putting green, gardening beds and an orchard.

Opus served as the project’s developer, design-builder architect and engineer of record. Sperides Reiners Architects was the design architect, while Consilium Home was the interior designer.

Foremost Companies to Open 55+ Neighborhood in California

Foremost Companies has announced the grand opening of its fourth 55+ neighborhood at Terramor, a multigenerational master planned community in Temescal Valley, California.

The new neighborhood, Oakton, has 83 single-family homes and access to amenities and common spaces.

Engel Burman Group Opens Long Island Community

The Engel Burman Group has opened the Bristal at Jericho, an assisted living community in Garden City, New York.

The community has 180 assisted living and memory care apartments along with amenities such as an outdoor pool, fitness center, cinema, library, card and billiard room and performing arts center.

Already, Bristal at Jericho has more than 50 residents, with monthly rental rates starting at $6,500.

CA Ventures Project in Michigan Now Open

The Sheridan at Birmingham, a senior living community developed by CA Ventures and managed by Senior Lifestyle, has opened in Birmingham, Michigan.

The assisted living and memory care community has 122 units and was designed by architecture firm Harley Ellis Devereaux (HED).

— Local officials have approved a planned 248-unit senior housing complex in the Portage Park suburb of Chicago.

— A planned mixed-use development in Columbus, Ohio, will include 180 units for senior housing.

— An affordable senior housing project with 93 homes is coming together in Nanuet, New York.

Tax breaks might be part of the picture for a 383-unit senior housing development in the works for Garfield Township, Michigan.

— Capitol Seniors Housing is moving forward with a plan to convert a former hotel into senior housing in Nassau County, New York.

— Local officials in Hamburg Township, Michigan, have given the go-ahead to a planned 80-bed assisted living project.

— A 142-unit assisted living community is slated to open in Marana, Arizona.

— Charter Senior Living has broken ground on a new assisted living community in Huntsville, Alabama.

— A Lifespace community in the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove has added a new health center as part of a $180 million expansion project.
