Watercrest Breaks Ground on South Carolina Community

Watercrest Senior Living Group and its equity partners, Peninsula U.S. Real Estate and Corecam Capital Partners, have broken ground on a new community in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The community, Watercrest Myrtle Beach, has 98 units, with amenities such as a promenade, fireplace, water wall, multiple dining venues, pool, salon and spa, grand balconies, “Florida-style” outdoor spaces and an indoor market streetscape with LifeBUILT programming touches for memory care residents.

The Bank of Texas financed the community, and Shiel Sexton is handling construction. The community is currently scheduled to open to residents late in 2021.

RLC to Start Construction On Florida Community

Resort Lifestyle Communities (RLC) is scheduled to hold a groundbreaking for its next senior living project in Wellington, Florida, on July 23.

The $30 million community, Palomino Gardens, is designed to have one- and two-bedroom units for residents, and amenities such as an in-house bank, pharmacy, gift shop and salon.

Work Starts for New Senior Living Community in Illinois

The McShane Construction Company has announced the start of construction on The Oaks at Algonquin, a 166-unit senior living community from Spectrum Retirement Communities.

Amenities for residents include three restaurants, a pub, salon, media lounge, theater, health club, doctor and space for therapists and a community center with a demo kitchen. Outside, residents can use a rooftop deck and fire pit, grill area, dining patio, memory care garden and landscaped courtyards.

Vessel Architecture designed the community. If all goes according to plan, construction will wrap up early in 2022.

North Carolina Community Expansion Nears Halfway Point

Givens Estates, a life plan community in Asheville, North Carolina, is about halfway done with its $33 million expansion project.

The new expansion, called Friendship Park, will have 80 apartment homes for residents. Givens Estates is also investing $9.5 million to update and renovate its Oxford Commons building on campus with three new dining venues, a wellness gym and an exterior terrace.

If all goes according to plan, the expansion will open in 2021.

Texas Small-House Community Includes Infection Control Measures

A small-home senior living community is slated to open this month in McKinney, Texas, with some added infection control design features.

The 12- to 16-bedroom community, Teresa’s House, has features that include a heating and cooling system with UV air purification capabilities and resident rooms with an individualized HVAC unit to limit circulation of air among them. Each house also only has one entrance in order to aid with screening.

College Campus CCRC Welcomes First Residents

The Spires at Berry College, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) on the campus of Berry College in Rome, Georgia, has welcomed its first residents.

The community began construction in 2018, and has opened 55 of its 144 apartment homes and 26 of its freestanding cottage homes. More than 70% of the community is now pre-sold.

The community’s common areas include a fourth-floor club room with scenic views, three dining venues, an indoor saltwater swimming pool, a fitness room, beauty salon and spa, arts studio and multi-purpose room for special events.

Greenbrier Senior Living is managing the community. Greenbrier Development led the project’s construction, development, marketing and finance, while Brasfield & Gorrie was its general contractor and Ziegler Financial provided funding for the community.

Presbyterian Opens Affordable Community in Pennsylvania

Presbyterian Senior Living (PSL) on June 30 held a grand opening for its latest affordable apartment community, LongCrest.

The community has 52 one and two-bedroom apartments for low-income people 62 years old or older. Residents began the moving in on June 26 in a staggered way to maintain social distancing.

Evergreen Renovates Affordable Community Near Chicago

Evergreen Real Estate Group has completed its renovation of Garden House of Maywood, a 144-unit affordable community for older adults in Maywood, Illinois.

The renovations included work on resident rooms and common areas. The community also got some exterior improvements, such as a facade restoration, new roofing and repaired sidewalks.

Renovations Complete at Texas Community

Investcor and New Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care have wrapped up renovation work at a historic assisted living community in Denton, Texas.

The community, Fairhaven Assisted Living, now has an updated 47-unit building that preserves the design and intent of the original architect, O’Neil Ford.

The $9 million renovations included updating and expanding existing living spaces for more common areas and activity rooms, refurbishing the original wood-framed, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and adding a new HVAC and electrical system, according to a 2019 press release.

The Fairhaven project team is comprised of Investcor Development, New Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care, Pi Architects, Allison Engineering, TDi Engineering, MEP Associates Design Groups and Architexas.
