LCS Hires Welltower Veteran Weisenburger to Lead Business Development

LCS has hired a new head of business development, as the company continues implementing a new program to enhance its operations and prepare for sustained growth.

The Des Moines, Iowa-based company hired Joe Weisenburger as vice president, senior director of business development, effective July 6.

He joins LCS from Welltower (NYSE: WELL), where he was most recently senior vice president of business development for the Toledo, Ohio-based health care REIT.

Weisenburger joined Welltower in 1998 and was appointed to his current role in January 2018. He was responsible for leading domestic deal origination and relationship management efforts for the REIT’s senior housing portfolio

He was instrumental in identifying and structuring mutually beneficial business and investment opportunities, as well as creating new business verticals.

Weisenburger is joining LCS as it implements Eversafe 360°, a comprehensive, science-based initiative that will establish new safety standards across its portfolio during extreme events that can adversely impact operations, such as Covid-19 or natural disasters.

He also arrives as the operator’s managed portfolio of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) for Denver-based Healthpeak Properties (NYSE: PEAK) enters that REIT’s same-store portfolio and show signs of operational improvement. LCS also recently broke ground on a new community in New Jersey, slated to have 220 units.

With 139 rental communities and life plan communities in over 30 states, The LCS Family of Companies, which includes operator Life Care Services, is the second-largest senior living provider in the U.S., according to 2020 data from industry association Argentum.

At LCS, Weisenburger will succeed Earl Wade, who has been integral in LCS’ growth since it merged with CSRA in 2010. During that time, Wade supported over 50 new third-party management and development relationships. He will retire in January 2022.

“My first goal is to expand the management opportunities by helping organizations better understand how the company’s scale and diverse services can help them thrive and grow,” Weisenburger said in a statement announcing his hiring.
