The Kiser Group is launching a new senior housing brokerage business, with longtime senior living financial services expert Mark Myers to lead the division.
Kiser Group Co-Founder Lee Kiser told Senior Housing News on Monday the Chicago, Illinois-based real estate firm had been “exploring the potential to launch specialized multifamily divisions” which resulted in expanding beyond the firm’s traditional market-rate business.
“Seniors housing is a strong fit for these expansion plans,” Kiser told SHN. “We’ve recognized Mark Myers as one of the leading names in seniors housing brokerage for decades, and we’re excited to better serve seniors housing investors by combining our platform with Mark’s expertise.”
The new division will focus on all property types in senior living, including active adult, independent living, assisted living, memory care and long-term care, along with psychiatric care and long-term acute care hospital properties, Myers and Kiser told SHN.
In an emailed statement, Myers added that his past experience will be “instrumental in navigating the unique nature” of the senior living sector. He brings over three decades of senior living experience with him to his new role at Kiser, having most recently served as managing director for Walker & Dunlop and SVN Senior Living Advisors.
“Having represented hundreds of sellers, and helped buyers identify strong opportunities while supporting financing and due diligence, I’m confident we can provide an efficient and effective process for all parties involved,” Myers told SHN.
The multifamily brokerage firm’s entrance into senior living reflects the company’s interest in the sector to meet the “evolving needs of investors and operators” in the space, according to a press release issued Monday.
In the release, Myers also said the senior living sector is at a “pivotal point.”
“Joining Kiser Group is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a talented and growth-minded team while focusing on a sector for which I’m deeply passionate,” Myers said in the news release.
Myers is not the only industry veteran who has recently taken on a leadership role in a new venture in recent days.
Kiser’s entrance into senior living brokerage comes a week after Macquarie Asset Management launched a senior housing investment platform led by former Ventas (NYSE: VTR) executive John Cobb, aiming to deploy between $300 million and $500 million over the next 12 months.
