Gabe Melchor, Director of Business Intelligence at Enquire Solutions, has been named a 2021 Future Leader by Senior Housing News.
To become a Future Leader, an individual is nominated by their peers. They must be a high-performing employee who is 40-years-old or younger, a passionate worker who knows how to put vision into action, and an advocate for seniors, and the committed professionals who ensure their well-being.
Senior Housing News spoke with Melchor to learn more about how serving older adults keeps him invigorated, why it is important to ask questions and how he believes the future of senior housing is data-driven:
What drew you to the senior living industry?
I have had a lot of opportunities to spend time with my own grandparents. Being able to spend time with them and hear their stories and understand what brought them to where they are today has drawn me to the industry, in the sense that I want to be able to contribute and give back.
I think the opportunity to work with the elderly and influence outcomes for them is such a strong opportunity, and providing actionable data for the housing industry to drive those outcomes is such a motivating factor for me.
What has been your biggest lesson learned since joining the industry?
My biggest lesson learned was seeing the hunger of the people that we work with to make a difference, whether it’s providing better outcomes or engaging their sales counselors to provide those outcomes. It’s an industry where there’s a lot of passion.
What would you change about senior housing and care if you had the chance?
If I could change one thing, I think it might be engaging more people who aren’t residents and who don’t have family there. It would be cool to see community outreach in the sense of getting more people involved or having events — though obviously, not now with Covid. But there is an opportunity to go and to contribute at some of these residences and interact with the residents there. I think that’s something that we have an opportunity to learn from them and hear their stories.
What changes do you see on the horizon for senior housing in 2022?
I think what will continue to be data-driven. I think we’re going to continue to be able to have a holistic view of the data. As we integrate systems, we can use better data to drive outcomes. So that’s why I think we’re going to continue to see that focus.
In a word, how would you describe the future of senior housing?
Talking to some of our clients, some of the unique approaches they are taking in providing care across the continuum is exciting. Whether it’s using things like satellite music therapy or something else, they are taking innovative new approaches to engaging the community. To me, that is fun, and I think there’s a good opportunity to do these things now, especially as we have more research and apply new practices.
