Frontline Honors: Octavia Holiday-Jones, Priority Life Care, LLC

Octavia Holiday-Jones, concierge for Priority Life Care, LLC, has been named a 2022 Frontline Honors honoree by Senior Housing News.

To become a Frontline Honoree, an individual is nominated by their peers. The candidate must be a dedicated, high-performing frontline worker who delivers exceptional experiences and outcomes; a passionate worker who knows how to put their vision into action for the good of seniors and aging industry professionals; and an advocate for seniors, their industry, and their peers.

Senior Housing News caught up with Holiday-Jones to discuss her time in the senior housing industry.

SHN: What drew you to the Senior Housing industry?

Holiday-Jones: I’ve had the privilege of working with all age groups except seniors. Seniors are my favorite age group by far. I’m guaranteed intriguing life stories, lessons and good laughs. When the opportunity presented itself, I hopped on chance to bring my experience with people of all ages full circle.

What’s your biggest lesson learned since starting to work in the industry?

Since working in the industry, I’ve learned that not all seniors require the same care. Some are extremely independent while others may rely on you heavily. I’m here for them all.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part about the job is definitely getting to know the residents. Hearing some of their journeys amazes me.

What do you want society (or the general public) to know about your job?

I find both pride and pleasure in assisting the residents and their families in whatever capacity is needed. It’s a privilege to be able to assist this growing community because “the seniors are the treasures that hold all the wisdom.” The well-being and safety of the residents are priority for me.

What may be one thing leaders don’t know, that you wish they universally knew, about your job?

I’d like leaders to know that though my job appears to be “I’m just sitting at the desk,” it is far more complex than that. I am the first point of contact and I cater to all residents, guests, and staff. I try my absolute best to meet the needs of everyone. I’m often stuck in the middle as the bearer of messages (wanted & unwanted). Frustration and anger is often aimed in my direction. That at times isn’t easy to deal with.
