Epoch Senior Living Names New Leader After Death of Founder, CEO

Epoch Senior Living has a new top leader a little more than a month after the death of the company’s CEO and founder, Larry Gerber.

Laurie Gerber, who was married to the Waltham, Massachusetts-based company’s late executive, is now slated to lead the company going forward as chairperson, according to a recent report on local news publication Westchester & Fairfield County Business Journals.

Gerber “shares the same passion as her late husband Larry for serving seniors and their families,” according to the company’s website. Her background includes working as chief financial officer and chief compliance officer for Great Hill Partners, CFO at Meditrust Corporation and partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Epoch currently manages five Watersone Senior Living communities and operates 11 Bridges by Epoch memory care and AL communities across the Northeast.

A representative for Epoch was not immediately available to comment on the news Monday.

Gerber highlighted the importance of continuing Epoch’s mission caring for older adults in an interview with the local news publication.

“To continue the business and fulfill my husband’s legacy is the thing that really keeps me going and helps me be able to cope with the loss,” Gerber said.. “The day after the funeral I woke up and I called his senior management team and I said, ‘Let’s do this; let’s do this for Larry.’ So I am doing this for my husband and it’s the thing that brings me joy.”

Gerber added she wants to “grow the business and create more opportunities for both residents and employees,” while honoring her husband’s legacy.

Going forward, Laurie Gerber said she is touringall of the operator’s communities to get a sense of operations on the ground, while preparing for dealing with the industry’s many current challenges.

“I’m working hard to make sure we hire the best people, we train them the best, that we make sure we put the residents first and we keep our reputation,” Laurie Gerber said in the article.

In 2018, Epoch expanded its Waterstone brand and continued its work with National Development.In 2022 the Epoch-managed Watersone on High Ridge won the first-place 2022 Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Award for dining renovations. Epoch also this month named Michael Toce as the company’s new vice president of wellness services.
