Civitas Senior Living Names New CEO

Civitas Senior Living has announced a leadership transition that will see Co-Founder Wayne Powell transition to chairman and current president Cooper Vittitow as the company’s new CEO.

Vittitow has spent more than 13 years at Civitas Senior Living, rising from vice president of operations in 2012 to senior vice president, chief operating officer and, since October 2018, president of the Fort Worth–based company.

“I am honored to step into this role. Civitas has always believed that when you care deeply about people, everything else follows,” Vittitow said in a news release. “That philosophy has shaped my entire career. I look forward to continuing our work with residents, families, and employees across every community.”

Civitas Senior Living, founded in 2012, now manages over 30 communities serving over 5,000 senior living residents and 2,500 staff.

“This transition reflects years of thoughtful succession planning,” Powell said in the news release. “I was inspired early in life to give seniors a place to call home. Cooper shares that same commitment. His approach to people, operations, and long-term thinking makes him the right person to guide Civitas into its next era.”

Powell will now serve as chairman of the board and assist in organizational vision, governance and long-range strategy, according to the release.
