Christian Living Communities Taps Eden Alternative Leader Vitale-Aussem as New CEO

Christian Living Communities (CLC) has tapped Jill Vitale-Aussem as its next president and CEO.

Vitale-Aussem is an industry veteran who served for the last two years as president and CEO of The Eden Alternative, the organization founded by Dr. Bill Thomas to drive culture-change and create more person-centered approaches in senior living and care.

Prior to her time with The Eden Alternative, Vitale-Aussem worked for CLC as executive director for a Denver community and as vice president of operations for Cappella Living Solutions, the consulting and management division of the company.

“In many respects, this is a homecoming for Jill, and we’re welcoming her with open arms,” CLC Board Chair Greg Terry said in a press release issued Wednesday.

Englewood, Colorado-based CLC is a nonprofit organization that serves more than 3,000 older adults across 23 owned and managed communities in six states, as well as through other service lines such as home care and adult day programs.

Vitale-Aussem succeeds Terry Rogers, who in February announced he would exit CLC to become CEO of Orlando-based Westminster Communities. Vitale-Aussem will officially begin as president and CEO on Nov. 16.

CLC/Cappella has a reputation for being innovative, including through its role in creating the Perennial Consortium to launch Medicare Advantage plans and its involvement in the Minka small-house model created by Bill Thomas.

In Vitale-Aussem, the organization has a leader who also is known for pushing senior living in new directions. In fact, she authored the book Disrupting the Status Quo of Senior Living: A Mindshift.

And, in hiring Vitale-Aussem, women now represent 70% of CLC’s core leadership team, a company spokesperson told Senior Housing News.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to Christian Living Communities,” Vitale-Aussem said in Thursday’s news release. “ … While our field is in a time of unprecedented challenge, there are incredible opportunities for Christian Living Communities to emerge as an even stronger organization — one that leads the way to a new future.”
