Brookdale Senior Living President Cindy Kent Leaving Company

Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE: BKD) President of Senior Living Operations Cindy Kent is resigning from the company.

Her departure, effective Oct. 1, 2021, was announced in an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission late Monday. She is leaving to pursue another opportunity outside the senior living industry.

Kent, a former executive at 3M and Best Buy board member, joined the Brentwood, Tennessee-based senior living operator in January 2020 as executive vice president and president of senior living operations, a new role with the company. At 3M, she led the organization’s infection-prevention division. Prior to 3M, she had stints at Medtronic and Eli Lilly.

During Kent’s tenure at Brookdale, the company adopted unique practices to respond to workplace stresses. One, spearheaded by her, involved bringing in a military official to discuss managing staff fatigue.

Kent was on the board of directors for electronics retailer Best Buy from September 2018 to June 2020, a period during which the company made inroads into health care technology, launching Best Buy Health and spending nearly $1 billion to scale the business segment. Notably, Best Buy’s GreatCall product line is already utilized by some senior living providers.
In July 2021, Kent was named to the board of directors at Accolade (Nasdaq: ACCD), a provider of cloud-based health and wellness benefits solutions based in Seattle.
