Aegis Living Adds Two More Starbucks Alums to Leadership Team

Aegis is building out its bench with more alumni of the nation’s most prominent coffee retailer.

The company this week hired Deepa Hall and Tricia Williams, two former leaders at Starbucks (Nasdaq: SBUX). They join Aegis president Kris Engskov, who came aboard in January after previously working as executive vice president of business integration for the global coffee giant.

Bellevue, Washington-based Aegis operates 32 communities in Washington, California and Nevada, with another seven communities in development. The provider’s most recent project was a ski lodge-inspired $55 million community in Mercer Island, Washington.

Williams will serve as director of operations, a role that will task her with overseeing the development, implementation and management of the senior living provider’s strategic operating plan. She will also help the company scale as it continues to grow along the West Coast.

Williams first joined Starbucks in 1997, and most recently held the title of senior manager of recruiting programs and employer branding.

Hall, meanwhile, is joining Aegis as a general manager. She previously worked at Starbucks as senior director of project integration for its Shanghai, China; and Tokyo, Japan markets.

The senior living industry has long looked to Starbucks as a model for sales and marketing success. And Starbucks hasn’t ignored the business of aging, either — the company last year opened its first cafe in Mexico City and staffed it with 14 employees who are all at least 50 years old.

Aegis has a reputation for innovation, with a multitude of unique projects that include a niche community near Seattle built to appeal to older Chinese Americans and a corporate headquarters equipped with a treehouse that doubles as a conference room. With its most recent hires, the provider appears to be infusing senior living with expertise from outside the industry in an effort to keep bringing in new ideas.

“I had the opportunity to work with many remarkable leaders at Starbucks. But, none more remarkable than Deepa Hall and Tricia Williams,” Engskov wrote on LinkedIn. “Today, I couldn’t be more excited to welcome them both to Aegis Living, where we are revolutionizing senior living.”
