Sunrise Senior Living introduces expansion and rebrand at NYC community
Sunrise Senior Living announced The Capstone Battery Park City, a new independent living community in Downtown Manhattan. Formerly known as Battery Park by Sunrise, the rebrand reflects a new phase focused on resident experience and connection to the surrounding area, according to a news release.
The announcement is part of a multi-phase renovation plan aimed at creating a luxury environment with upgraded amenities and services. Renovations include a full dining room revamp, updates to the pool, gym, salon and doctor’s office, and the addition of a coffee shop, the news release states. The refreshed spaces will enhance functionality and expand community gathering areas while maintaining resident comfort throughout construction.
The Capstone offers independent living with wellness-focused programming, individualized services and restaurant-style dining.
Alongside The Capstone, Sunrise Senior Living operates The Apsley on the Upper West Side and Sunrise at East 56th on the Upper East Side, reinforcing its commitment to luxury senior living across New York City.
Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury unveils villas project
Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury, a faith-based continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Winchester, Virginia, recently partnered with Warfel Construction on a $110 million expansion project..
The expansion will add The Villas, a new neighborhood of independent living residences centered on community, choice and convenience, according to a news release.
The Villas feature smaller-scale buildings with only 10 homes each across 12 floor plans designed to emphasize natural light, open space and lifestyle amenities. Of the 97 new apartments, 94 were occupied almost immediately after completion.
Benchmark Senior Living and National Development Expand in New Jersey
Benchmark Senior Living and National Development, a real estate investment and management firm, announced their expansion to New Jersey through the acquisition of Arbor Terrace Roseland, now renamed Benchmark at Roseland, according to a news release.
Benchmark will operate the 85-apartment assisted living and memory care community.
The acquisition was completed through a joint venture between National Development and Benchmark with financing from Synovus Bank. Additional Benchmark communities in New Jersey are under development, including Benchmark at Scotch Plains opening in 2026 and Benchmark at Cedar Grove opening in 2027, the news release stated.
Benchmark at Roseland spans 4.3 acres with 68,000 square feet of living space in Essex County. The community offers assisted living and memory care apartments along with a variety of amenities including a dining room, cafe, movie theater, hair salon, fitness center, library, private dining room and recreation room. Outdoor features include patios, a walking path and manicured gardens.
The community has received multiple honors including the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Memory Care Excellence Award and U.S. News Best Senior Living recognition for ranking among the top 25% nationwide.

Westminster at Lake Ridge expands amenities in Virginia
Westminster at Lake Ridge, a nonprofit life plan community in Lake Ridge, Virginia, announced plans to expand its 62-acre campus with 24 new independent living homes and additional amenities, according to a news release.
Two new buildings will feature modern, light-filled residences ranging from 1,400 to 1,600 square feet, each with private balconies and contemporary finishes.
The expansion will also include an art studio and new gathering spaces to support resident connection and creativity. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with completion in 2027, the news release states.
The community’s existing amenities include wooded walking trails, a fitness center, a heated saltwater indoor pool and jacuzzi, and multiple dining venues, from an all-day bistro with outdoor seating to a refined dining room, wine bar and private event spaces.
Capstone Building Corp. starts on luxury Alabama property
Capstone Building Corp., a Birmingham-based general contractor, has started construction on a new luxury senior living community in Mountain Brook, Alabama.
The project is being led by a development effort that includes Dominion Partners, according to a news release. The new property marks the first community of its kind in the city with demolition and site preparation beginning in September 2025 and completion expected in October 2027, the release states.
The development will include a full continuum of care with independent living, assisted living and memory care within one, multi-story building. The property will include 162 apartment residences spanning nearly 236,000 square feet of living space and 52,000 square feet of structured parking and amenity areas, the news release shows.
The four- and five-story community will include underground parking for approximately 120 vehicles and is designed to reflect the surrounding Mountain Brook Village architecture and landscape. Residents will have access to high-end finishes and a range of premium amenities that combine the luxury of independent living with the comfort of on-site care.
The project’s architect is Rosemann & Associates, P.C.
Village On The Isle reaches construction Milestone in Florida
Village On The Isle, a nonprofit Life Plan community in Venice, Florida, announced a major milestone in its $78 million expansion project with the topping out of its new wellness center and independent living buildings, according to a news release.
The community plans to allow residents to access the new spaces next summer.
The expansion includes “The Core,” a 9,200-square-foot wellness center at the heart of the 16-acre campus. The facility will feature a fitness center, indoor pickleball court, spa and sauna, poolside lounge and a zero-entry outdoor pool, the news release stated. Two five-story independent living buildings will also be added, providing 54 new residences ranging from 1,300 to 1,800 square feet.
All new units are presold, reflecting strong demand for independent living in the area. The additions will expand the community’s offerings, which currently include 234 independent living units, 48 assisted living units, 16 memory care units.
