SHN: What drew you to the senior housing & senior living industry?
Rosen: I made a big pivot coming from investment banking covering the technology sector. What attracted me to senior living was the chance to make an impact in a business that serves real people and is operational at its core. Monarch leadership’s vision for growth and the future of the industry really resonated with me as well.
SHN: What’s your biggest leadership lesson learned since starting to serve this industry?
Rosen: That success comes from alignment across all levels of the organization.
In senior living, frontline staff, executive directors, and corporate teams must move in the same direction for any initiative to succeed. My biggest leadership lesson has been the importance of building a culture of accountability and collaboration, where finance, operations, sales, and wellness all share ownership of outcomes. Numbers tell the story, but people drive the results.
SHN: If you could change one thing with an eye toward the future of the senior housing & senior living industry, what would it be?
Rosen: How quickly our industry adopts technology.
Too much time still gets spent on manual work that pulls focus from higher impact initiatives. I do believe we’re moving in the right direction, and Monarch has been intentional about staying ahead of that curve. It is not always smooth or easy, but by leaning into better data and systems, we’re giving our teams more time to drive real impact.
SHN: In one word, how would you describe the future of senior housing & senior living?
Rosen: Evolving.
Demographics alone will change the scale, but expectations around lifestyle, healthcare, and technology will keep pushing us to innovate. The operators who keep evolving alongside those needs will set the standard.
SHN: If you had a crystal ball, what do you think will impact the senior housing & senior living industry now and into 2026?
Rosen: Supply constraints paired with accelerating demand will define the next few years.
The 80+ population is growing quickly, but new development hasn’t kept pace, which will continue to push occupancy higher across the industry.
SHN: In your opinion, what qualities must all Future Leaders possess?
Rosen: Future Leaders in this industry have to be data-driven. You can no longer rely on instinct and past experience alone.
Investors, staff, and families all expect transparency and measurable outcomes. Leaders at every level need to make smarter, faster decisions. Being data-driven doesn’t replace empathy or culture, but it ensures the right information is guiding both.
SHN: If you could give advice to yourself looking back to your first day in the senior housing & senior living industry, what would it be and why?
Rosen: Partner tightly with Operations and listen to the people actually in the communities.
Coming from investment banking, the instinct was to try and solve everything in excel or to find solutions that look great on paper. The people on the ground often see challenges and opportunities long before the numbers do. By listening first, you ground your decisions in reality and make more informed decisions you might not come to through data alone.
